Journeys’ is placing more and more African American infants each year through the Chicago area office.

This program has the same attributes of the other successful JOH domestic adoption programs:   Meeting the expectant mother’s needs during and after the pregnancy according to the laws of her state.  This includes providing counseling, concrete support services, medical care, and adopting families to choose from.

The expecting parents provide medical and social histories and be required to take a drug screen.

Illinois adoption law requires that the birth mother wait 72 hours after the birth before she signs legal documents.  The birth father must be notified if possible.

Once a family is approved to be in the program and has completed a portfolio including  a letter and pictures they will be shown to the expectant mothers who fit their criteria.

Caucasian families are expected to have a plan in place that will give their child consistent same race contact and to celebrate culture and heritage.

Families pay the domestic adoption placement fee as described on the domestic adoption payment sheet.
