 Journeys of the Heart has worked in the Marshall Islands for almost a
decade. Journeys is currently the only agency
approved by the government of the Marshall Islands and its Central
Adoption Authority to work in adoptions of Marshallese children.
While openness is becoming increasingly more common in other
international adoptions, Marshallese adoptions have always been open.
This view on adoption blends seamlessly with Journeys own views on
openness in adoption and the significance of such a relationship.
Families who have come into Journeys RMI adoption program have a
connection with the Marshall Islands through prior adoption,
humanitarian work in the islands, family history, etc.
Your adoption process is guided by JOH staff who have experienced the
joys of an open Marshallese adoption, or who have frequently traveled to
the islands. Once in the Marshall Islands, your in-country escort will
guide you through each step of the adoption and assist you in getting to
know your child’s birth family and in experiencing the beauty of
Marshallese society. Lastly, an American attorney working with JOH in
the RMI will assure compliance and understanding of the laws.
