Dear Birth Mother,
We can only imagine how difficult a
decision you have ahead of you. We are impressed with your courage and
know that you are doing this because of the love you have for your
child. We would like to tell you a little about ourselves so it might
help you make this brave and courageous decision.
We are Jeff and Jessica. Fourteen
years ago, Jeff fell for Jessica the day he met her, and before the
night was over he knew they would one day be married. It’s almost silly
how much he loves her. We have a wonderful friendship and love to be
silly and have fun. We are very respectful of one another and enjoy
doing nice things for each other “just because”. For example, Jeff
surprised Jessica on their fifth wedding anniversary with a trip to Lake
Tahoe. He handed her tickets after dinner and said, “Plane leaves
tonight!” Our relationship has changed, and grown over the years. We
are best friends and believe in talking about our challenges, giving
each other space, and revisiting situations when we are able to be
objective. In the end, we are a team and love each other.
Jeff has a strong sense of humor. He
believes one needs to be able to laugh in the good times, and laugh in
the hard times. A good sense of humor to him is like a light in the
dark. Jeff had fun growing up in Alaska. Summer days staying bright
until eleven, ice skating to school, moose running through the back
yard, and rolling snowballs home until they were higher than the street
signs are fond memories. As a family, they camped and fished often.
Jeff moved down to Washington when he was in the seventh grade, did very
well in school, and went on to college. He graduated with degrees in
Physics and Mechanical Engineering.
Jeff works as an engineer for a
manufacturing company. He loves knowing that the work he does results
in a product that will add enjoyment and improve a customer’s life. He
likes being a leader and applying technology to problem solving. He
enjoys training and working with teams to help develop their skills.
Jessica grew up in Washington and has
fun memories of building forts in the living room with her sisters and
riding her bike all over the neighborhood. In the summer she could
often be found up in the cherry tree in the backyard and eating cherries
off half of the tree (the other half, per parent’s orders, was the
birds’ side). Her mom worked in a used bookstore, and is now the store
owner. One could say that books are in Jessica’s genes.
Jessica works in the children’s
department of a public library and loves it. Toddler Story Time is her
favorite responsibility: 15
minutes of songs, stories, movement and finger plays. She also assists
with the planning of the Summer Reading program. She helps kids find
books for fun-reading or school reports. Most of the books she reads
are children’s fiction with a few adult titles squeezed in now and
then. She also oversees a program where kids read aloud to dogs. She
often comes home with stories about the dogs that came to the library
that day.
We have a dog of our own named Connor.
He is a sweetheart with boundless energy, and is waiting for a child to
play with and lick clean. Living in Oregon, we spend lots of time
outside and love the green trees and hills, warm summer weather and
drives to the ocean for day trips or weekends to fly kites or climb the
dunes. At home, we work on projects like gardening or painting, or just
relax and watch movies. Jessica loves to read, scrapbook and swim and
Jeff likes playing games on the computer and building paper models. We
often have friends over to watch movies, play board or card games, or
share BBQ and our backyard fire pit. We also get together with our
close friends that we have officially named “The Big Family” (they have
10 children) to BBQ, play games, and inner-tube down the river.
Our love for travel has taken us to
Italy, England, Ireland, Wales, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Mexico,
Canada, and many places in the United States including Oregon,
Washington, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Georgia, Pennsylvania,
and Florida. Jeff even worked in Italy for a month. When he stops
talking about how fantastic the food was, he might even remember a few
Italian phrases. We believe that travel gives one the chance to see a
world different than their immediate surroundings, learn about cultures,
and opens their minds to new ideas.
We look forward to taking a child on
camping trips, hikes, long drives, and seeing new places and people. We
are caring and respectful individuals, who believe in providing both the
safety of boundaries and opportunities for fun learning. We have the
time to devote to a baby and so much love and nurturing to give.
Financially, Jessica will be able to quit her job at the library and be
a stay-at-home mom. We believe in having an “open” adoption, and see
the birth mother as a person of respect. We wish to facilitate the
maintaining of a connection. We are looking forward to welcoming a new
little baby into our arms and hearts.
Love, Jeff and Jessica |
