Judi, who developed and coordinates Journeys' India program, was born and raised in a suburb of Boston. She attended the Univ. of Northern Colorado and Oregon State University, graduating with a B.S. in Child Development and Family Studies. She also earned teaching certificates in health education and vocational home economics education.
Four of Judi's
five children came home through international adoption. Three came from Kolkata,
one as an 8 week old preemie (scroll down to see photo of Dana with his
girlfriend, Leela, also adopted from Kolkata), and two at the ages of 7 and 9
years old. One child is "home-grown," and Judi also has a daughter adopted from
China at age 13 months. "from out of the pain of five miscarriages came the
miracles of these five kids," says Judi. Judi taught preschool, taught high school students with learning disabilities, and did home studies for Journeys of the Heart for several years before officially joining the staff in 1999. She continues to teach adoption education classes in Corvallis, OR, and founded Mid-Valley Adoptive Families, an adoption support group, in 1982.
Judi says: "Adoption is my passion . . . helping kids find their families and families find their kids . . . this is truly a rewarding and marvelous profession. Each arrival home brings to light the miracle of adoption, the joining together of families, from around the world or across town, and it in its own way is a birth of a family, again and again."
