Melanie Meyer
Melanie
started working with the Journeys team not as an employee but as an adoptive
parent. Melanie adopted her daughter Brooke in September 2001
from China, which gave her son Landon (5) a sister he is very proud of.
Melanie was born in Grand Forks, ND and was raised in Minneapolis, MN.
She
attended Mankato State University and University of Minnesota. After her
second year in college Melanie went to work for Continental Airlines as
a
Flight Attendant. Through the airlines she was able to travel to many
places as well as live in many places. While working with the airlines
she volunteered as an escort for an adoption agency and escorted children
into
the United States from Korea. In 1991, while living in Los Angeles,
Melanie decided to return to school and complete her degree in teaching.
Since then she and her family moved to the Chicago area and she became
a
full-time mother until her opportunity with Journeys arrived.
Melanie says " Adoption is very close to my heart, it has brought
so much
joy to myself and my family, I am so happy to be helping others have that
same experience."
Melanie stepped down from her position at JOH in 2004, and is
awaiting another daughter to come home. She remains a great
friend and contributor to JOH and sits on the Board of Directors in
Illinois.
